almost 5 years ago – Mon, May 20, 2019 at 09:02:47 PM

Avast, my hearties!

Eddy Webb here:

At last, our voyage is about to set sail. Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21st, at 2pm Eastern US time will be the start of the PIRATES OF PUGMIRE KICKSTARTER!

Pirates of Pugmire is a chronicle sourcebook for both Pugmire and Monarchies of Mau. It’s usable in either game, or as part of a joint experience. Some highlights include:

* Two new species for players to enjoy: lizards and birds
* Six new callings, including two for dogs and two for cats
* Rules for building, sailing, and sinking ships
* A trove of new allies, enemies, and treasures
* Information on Waterdog Port and Port Matthew
* “Going on the Account,” a chronicle of three new adventures, taking characters from 1st through 6th level

(You can also hear Eddy discuss the writing and design of Pirates of Pugmire on this week's Onyx Pathcast podcast on your favorite podcast venues, or here on : https://onyxpathcast.podbean.com/)

Mock-up of cover design, not final.
Mock-up of cover design, not final.

We need your help in order to create a 7" x 10" hardcover between 150-200 pages, with a full-color interior and endpapers on high quality paper stock. We also want to get at least one print run into traditional distribution and available for sale at game and hobby stores. Throughout this Kickstarter campaign, we will be posting complete previews of the Pirates of Pugmire manuscript as backer-only updates.

To get you excited about the book, here's a small snippet of pirate fiction I wrote!

---

The deck of the Wet Nose was abuzz with activity. The crew desperately adjusted sails, pulled ropes, and turned wheels — anything to try and steer the course of the ship away from the looming thick fog sitting dead ahead of them. Captain Pug calmly walked among the crew, staring at the Fog when she wasn’t barking the occasional order. Eventually, the blue sky took up more and more of the view. Noctis returned to his captain, who was still staring ahead. “Ma’am, shouldn’t you be happy? We’ve cleared the Fog.”

“We have. But you’ve forgotten one thing.”

At that precise moment, the water all around the ship started to boil. The acidic water splashed onto the desk, irritating the eyes and skin of all the crew as they tried to figure out what was going on. Noctis ran to the side of the ship and stuck his head into the spray, shielding his eyes to get a better look. He caught a glimpse of something dark and rubbery slithering under the water before it disappeared again.

Then he heard a loud keening wail, and a giant squid-like creature lurched out of the water in front of the ship. Its tentacles waved menacingly in the air as it reared up, as large as the ship itself.

Captain Pug stared calmly at the monstrosity. “You forgot the kraken, number one.”

Hello Excellent Cats!

Realms of Pugmire Update (April 2019) from Eddy Webb

NEW MAU RELEASES!

The Mau stretch goal train just keeps on steaming ahead! Last month, we released the Roll of Good Dogs and Excellent Cats to our purr-fect Mau Kickstarter backers. And now we're sending out TWO more!
First is our collection of three Monarchies of Mau adventures, which are (naturally) called Adventures for Curious Cats! They range from an introductory story, “Murder Most Foul,” wherein players unravel a possible conspiracy threatening to undermine the monarchies, to “The Lost Library of Amosen,” an eldritch tale of mystery and Unseen abominations, to “A Lizard’s Tale,” in which players accompany a gecko companion to ruins of the Old Ones for treasures, glory, and allegiances.
Next is our anthology, Tales of Excellent Cats. Written by Aaron Rosenberg, Elaine Cunningham, Monica Valentinelli, Beth Cato, Errick A. Nunnally, Joseph D. Carriker, Jr., Sabrina Vourvoulias, ZZ Claybourne, Steven S. Long, LaShawn M. Wanak, Erin M. Evans, Lee Murray, Karen Bovenmyer, and Lucy A. Snyder, these short stories featuring a wide variety of cunning and curious cats will hopefully delight and entertain you, and maybe even give you ideas for your own chronicles.
Once our eligible Kickstarter backers have their files and we collect some errata, we'll be putting them up for sale, so keep an eye out!

If you missed it in the BackerKit notice, here are the links for the errata forms:

Adventures for Curious Cats is our book of three adventures for Mau. Here's the errata form for that: https://forms.gle/mqTZM2JG7ADXkvio6

Tales of Excellent Cats is our anthology. And here's the errata/typo form for that: https://forms.gle/U48qUs8u9aW7Hyty8

DIGITAL DOGS

Meanwhile, the Realms have been going increasingly digital! No, I'm not talking about everyone's favorite non-existent game CyberPug 3.0.3.0. Instead, two exciting digital Pugmire products are on the horizon!
One of the original stretch goals from the very first Pugmire Kickstarter campaign was an interactive audio drama released by Earplay. And now it's in soft launch! There are still some bugs to work out, which is why we haven't been shouting it from the rooftops just yet, but it is available right now on iOS via the Earplay app. Our friends over there are handling everything, so if you have any questions or you can't wait and want to check it out, head on over to earplay.com!
Also, now that our Fetch Quest backers have gotten their nice, shiny copy of the card game, we've worked quietly behind the scenes to offer an online version! In a few weeks you'll be able to buy a copy of Fetch Quest and play it with people online using Roll20.com. We're putting together a live streaming event to show everyone how it works, so stay tuned for more information!

Get ready to weigh anchor and head to the Acid Sea, because Pirates of Pugmire will be the next Onyx Path Kickstarter! I have a complete pre-edited manuscript to put into the paws of eager Kickstarter backers to review as the campaign goes on, and we're getting some great-looking art to show you what this book can be! Whether you're a fan of Pugmire or a player in the Monarchies of Mau, this book will be a complete chronicle that both dogs and cats can enjoy! I've already squawked like a parrot about this, so I'll save it for when we go live, mateys!

March Mau Update!
about 5 years ago – Tue, Mar 26, 2019 at 10:47:57 PM

Hello Excellent Cats!

Realms of Pugmire Update (March 2019) from Eddy Webb

Wow, March flew by almost as fast as February. But there are still some great updates for you in the Realms of Pugmire!

PIRATES OF PUGMIRE

Can you see that speck on the horizon? Is it an island? No, it's Pirates of Pugmire coming ever closer into view! The final drafts are in, so I've reviewed everything, and tweaked all the prose to my liking. All that's left is for me to write the fiction pieces, and we'll have a complete pre-edited manuscript ready for eager Kickstarter hands.

I'm also deep in art discussions with Rich Thomas, who has been my first mate in all things artistic. If you love the art in the Realms of Pugmire, he's a big part of that, working hand-in-glove with art director Mike Chaney. Rich has a lot of great ideas that will make Pirates really stand out and strike the right balance of fun and adventurous. And it means we have fun conversations like deciding what kinds of clothing birds wear and how to make a jewelry for turtles.

If you don't remember from last month, it'll contain:

  •  Playable lizard and bird characters!
  •  Six new callings!
  •  Rules for sailing and fighting on the Acid Sea!

February Mau Update!
about 5 years ago – Tue, Feb 26, 2019 at 08:37:50 PM

Hello Excellent Cats!

Realms of Pugmire Update (February 2019) from EDDY WEBB

February might be the shortest month, but there's no shortage of activity within the Realms of Pugmire! Here's what's going on!

EARPLAY INTERACTIVE AUDIO DRAMA!
It's been a long road, but in the next few weeks Earplay will be  launching the first volume of a Pugmire interactive audio drama, "Friends and Enemies!"  Written and designed by myself, Cyrus Nemati (Lords of New York, Bubble  Island 2), and Dave Grossman (Maniac Mansion, Sam & Max), "Friends and Enemies"  follows a royal guard (played by Amy Vorpahl) as she tries to be a good  dog while facing undead cats, a roguish ratter, and the secrets of the  first king of Pugmire. And you get to decide how the story goes by  talking to your iOS, Alexa, or Google Home device!

For those who backed the first Pugmire Kickstarter at a level to get a  PDF, you'll be receiving an email in the coming weeks directly from  Earplay with instructions on how to redeem your reward. Note that  Earplay is handling the process, so if you have concerns or problems,  head to earplay.com  for customer support. And if you didn't back that Kickstarter, you can  go to this link and click the "Get Notified" button to be informed when  it goes live!
